What are cookies?

Cookies are small files, that save your preferences on websites for future visits. Websites save cookies locally on user’s device, with which he/she/it is browsing on the internet. Cookie’s sole purpose is to identify certain devices and save user’s preferences they chose on their previous visit. Cookies help web pages to identify whether user has already visited certain web-page and in more advanced applications, cookies can help to properly adjust certain settings.

Saving of cookies is controlled by the browser, that user is using – he/she/it can enable or disable saving of cookies at any time in his/hers/its browser, under browser settings.

 

Why are cookies necessary?

Cookies’ fundamental purpose is to enhance user experience on website. They are used for storing data about website’s status (details about website settings/preferences), they help with execution of web services (such as e-commerce), collecting user statistics and traffic on webpage, user’s habits, etc.

In short, cookies help us to evaluate performance of our website.
